Nunu Chocolates
“The world is a better place when chocolate is involved,” says chocolatier, Justine Pringle.
After sampling some of the decadent golden caramel butterflies and hand dipped salted caramels from her company Nunu Chocolates, we couldn’t agree more. The fact that she uses all organic ingredients (like sugar, butter, cream and vanilla) and chocolate from family-run, sustainable farms in Columbia, makes our indulgence all the more guilt free.
From a childhood spent in South Africa, Pringle had always had a love of nature and even pursued a environmental degree in waste and resource management. But, her calling as a chocolatier came to her one day when she was looking for something to sell other than CD’s and T-shirts at her fiancé’s music shows. After mastering the temperamental nature of chocolate, Pringle decided to pursue her new found career by launching an organic, handmade chocolate collection named Nunu after the affectionate nickname given to children in her native land.
Our favorite is her Salt Bark Chocolate ($7), a 5 x 5 piece made with Columbian chocolate and embedded with salt roasted cashew caramels. Nunu Chocolates can be ordered as wedding favors or for gifts through the web site, by email or at select stores in Brooklyn.
