Tasting Table
John McDonald is no stranger to the New York foodie scene. In fact, one could even say that he’s had a hand in creating it. With an eye for design and a sophisticated palette, McDonald has created notable restaurants including Lever House, Lure Fish Bar, Chinatown Brasserie and Brasserie 44 (at the Royalton Hotel) as well as the eternally cool spot, Merc Bar.
His latest venture, Tasting Table, may not have a street address, but it’s quickly become the destination for adventurous eaters and drinkers in New York City and beyond. Backed by McDonald and Pilot Group (the private equity firm that struck gold with Daily Candy), Tasting Table is a free daily newsletter that gives the inside scoop on local restaurants, bars, wine shops and more.
Their recent launch party held at Perry Street hosted guests such as Cynthia Rowley, Frederic Fekkai, Oz Garcia and Bob Pittman who enjoyed a menu of delicacies including glazed short ribs, steamed red snapper and spiced chicken samosas personally prepared by legendary chef Jean Georges Vongerichten. In addition to the Dom Perignon and Highland Park Scotch Whisky, a curated list of wines were served including the Chateau Roudier 2002 Bordeaux and Chateau Moulin de Plaisance 2005 Bordeaux – Montagne Saint Emilion.
The private party, which entertained the food industry’s finest and digital media elite, not only celebrated the launch of the New York edition but their upcoming expansion to Los Angeles (on February 15th) as well as a national edition.
