Best in Brunch

It may seem counter intuitive but to enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon with your nearest and dearest in New York, you need to first do a little planning.  To help you navigate the crazy weekend scene (and to decide what is worth the wait), here are a few of our favorite spots in the city for brunch and bloodies.  And, just in time for Mother’s Day!

5 Ninth (5 Ninth Avenue, 212-929-9460)
With their charming private garden in the middle of the Meatpacking District, 5 Ninth is always a great option for the downtown crowd.  This weekend they are debuting their new prix fixe brunch ($29 + tax/tip), which includes one breakfast entree such as the Apple Raisin French Toast or Skillet Eggs with Mushrooms with unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s.  Bonus: they take reservations!

Clinton Street Baking Company & Restaurant (4 Clinton Street, 646-602-6263)
It may be known for its pancakes but this brunch spot has a wide variety of hearty egg dishes that can remedy any hangover.  Try the Spanish Scramble with chorizo, tomatoes and monteray jack or the Farmers Frittata, eggs baked in a cast iron pan with duck bacon, gruyere and melted leeks.  They don’t take reservations or credit cards, but its definitely worth the hassle.

South Gate (154 Central Park South, 212-484-5120)
For a more luxurious brunch experience, head uptown to the South Gate restaurant in the Jumeirah Essex House hotel. The elegant dining room has a stunning view of  Central Park and would be the perfect choice for a larger family get-together.  The $75 brunch buffet offers an incredible selection of sweet and savory choices with entrees brought to the table and complimentary breakfast cocktails.
